Possible long-term consequences of the “greenhouse effect,” the gradual warming of the Earth’s climate, may include melting the polar ice caps and a rising sea level.A. may include melting the polar ice caps and a rising sea level
B. may include the melting of polar ice caps and the rising sea level
C. may include polar ice caps that are melting and sea levels that are rising

Possible in beginning of sentence makes "may" redundant. Eliminate A,B,C.

Is E parallel? Moreover, what does the comma after 'climate' signify??
IMO A 'sounds' better than E...melting and rising are parallel to each other and consequences of GEE include both

use of "Possible " makes use of "May" redundant..

The

is a middlemen. You can eliminate it while looking for answers.

Also, read the options as "include melting of the polar ice caps"
and "include a rise in sea level".

Try to put this concept in rest of the options.You'll get to E.

IMO E.

I did not check the redudent Possible and may. But, I selected E beause of Parallesim.


A. may include melting the polar ice caps and a rising sea level

metling the polar caps - simple gerund
a rising sea level - a rise in sea level will be better. Rise is action noun
Hence it A is incorrect

B. may include the melting of polar ice caps and the rising sea level
the metling of polar caps - complex gerund
the rising sea level - a rise in sea level will be better. Rise is action noun
Hence it B is incorrect

C. may include polar ice caps that are melting and sea levels that are rising
Wordy

D. include melting the polar ice caps and sea levels that are rising
metling the polar caps - simple gerund
sea level that are rising - a rise in sea level will be better. Rise is action noun Hence it D is incorrect

E. include melting of the polar ice caps and a rise in sea level

melting of the polar ice caps - represents compex gerund form
a rise in sea level - represents action noun

As per parallelism, only action nouna and complex gerund can be made parallel.
