I also found it to be A
but it seems A is wrong.
As you marked A and posted the Qn :)

so I reworked on the problem again and again
I think the answer should be C

we need statement B to conclude that y is not zero
had y been zero, the distance will become infinite and thus unsolvable.

If I had rcvd this Qn on D Day, I would have also marked A and moved ahead.

but I think its very well said
GMAT is the most important number on your GMAT :)


so is OA C??

I had used some random logic to get A. But i want to know the correct method.

shortest distance between 2 parallel lines would be the perpendicular distance between....as x tends to 90 degree, QP becomes the shortest distance....x > y hence QP < RS...hence A is sufficient

Clearly B is note sufficient
