GPA Role in getting admission !

hi,

I am Abdullah. I am currently doing B.Sc in civil engineering. I just want to ask what is the role of GPA in getting admission to B-school ? like my CGPA is around 2.5 but if i score well in GMAT say 660+ am i going to get admission in any USA,european,Ausi or canadian uni?

Hi Abdullah,

A GPA is one component that admissions committees look at when evaluating applicants. However, that said, they post average GPAs for a reason. For one, it is a strong indicator of your ability to handle academic rigor. Secondly, it factors into rankings.

A 2.5, unfortunately, is very low. With a 2.5, you'd actually have to get above a 720 on your GMAT (closer to a 740) to offset it and, even then, it wouldn't erase it. Anything below a 3.0 is a red flag and a 2.5 is a significant issue.

Since you're still in undergrad, I would recommend two things. One, pull it up before you graduate. Then, after you're done undergrad, take a course or two on the side to build an alternative transcript.

There's no way around it - a 2.5 is going to cause you some headaches.
