K(1 + p/100) = J (1 + p/100) + 2440 - no help, you still have too many variables.


Together:
Substitute (J + 2000) for K in the second equation.

(J + 2000)(1 + p/100) = J (1 + p/100) + 2440

then: J(1+ p/100) + 2000 (1 + p/100) = J(1+ p/100) + 2400.

subtract J(1 + p/100) from each side you get

2000 (1+p/100) = 2440

p = 22%
