Sound can travel through water for enormous distances, prevented from dissipating its acoustic
energy as a result of boundaries in the ocean created by water layers of different temperatures
and densities.

A. prevented from dissipating its acoustic energy as a result of
B. prevented from having its acoustic energy dissipated by
C. its acoustic energy prevented from dissipating by
D. its acoustic energy prevented from being dissipated as a result of
E. preventing its acoustic energy from dissipating by

Explanation for this answer is very good take away. OA and OE Later

It has to be between C and E. But what is preventing its acoustic energy from dissipating is not clear in E. This issue is addressed in C.

IMO E

"As a result of" sounds incorrect to me. SO eliminate A, D
"prevented from having its acoustic energy dissipated by" long winded way to tell something and not clear. Eliminate B
"its acoustic energy prevented from dissipating by" prevented from is awkward. I think "prevent smt from" sounds more suitable. Eliminate C
The more you suffer before the test, the less you will do so in the test! :)

Dear Frank,
Conditions at which water is present are influencing the increase in decrease of energy
energy is not preventing energy...

Example: Japan was hit with shockwaves of decreasing intensity as the energy of waves had been absorbed by water over their path from ocean's center to the coast.
First take: 640 (50M, 27V) - RC needs 300% improvement

Hi,
If we use preventing(verb+ing modifier), the modifier should modify the preceding clause but the conditions which you have stated come in the second clause. That is why I feel E is incorrect.

It is not a run on sentence.Thats what even the post(above mentioned) says."is" verb is missing there.
