the best way to see the answer is to draw a grid


employed unemployed total
student 24

non-student 18

total 29 13 42

I have filled in the information from both statements and as you can see it is not possible to work out any cross section information. If we had one value like the number of unemployed/non-student the rest can be worked out. So for example is that figure was 5 the the table would be


employed unemployed total
student 16 8 24

non-student 13 5 18

total 29 13 42
