This is an absolute value question but we can also solve this question on the number line

ST1) Abs (C-A) = Abs (C-B) From the question stem we know A and B can not be same points since Abs (A-B) = 18, so we are left with one option:

C is in the middle of A and B

A-----C------B or B------C--------A

No info for D, therefore it is INSUF

ST2)

Abs (D-A) > 0

No info

ST1+ST2)

So :

A--D---C---D---B we have two different distance for B-D

B------C--------A -------D we have only one distance for B-D

We have three different possibilities, hence choose E

Just a small correction Logitech:
A--D---C---D---B we have two different distance for B-D

B------C--------A -------D we have only one distance for B-D

We have three different possibilities, hence choose E
As from S1 and Ques: dist AB = 18
C is midpoint. So Dist of AC=BC=9
given CD=8

and from S2: A is to the left of D

Third possibility is not possible,
B------C--------A -------D we have only one distance for B-D
As (CD=8) < (CA=9)

Answer is still E
