GMAT Tutor

by phoenix9801 » Mon Apr 05, 2010 10:25 am
Hi all,

Does anyone know of good tutors in NYC, especially GMAT Quantitative and Verbal? I specifically want a GMAT expert and not someone who does SAT or GRE. If anyone know someone like this please let me know with a reasonable rate.
Very important I found someone on craigslist (specialize in math only) [ https://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/bks/1675956853.html ] . I think his name is Wi and his phone number (212)500-3330 . I was wondering if anyone might have any information on him or heard of him before. If is an expert, his abilities, or if anyone know or toke him is he any good? Are most student toke before where sucessful.

Also what of questions should I ask him or be concerned about?

Please I need the help. Would greatly Appreciate.

I can't offer any info on that particular teacher, but you might want to take a look at the tutor listings on gmatix.com if you want more options--there were plenty of other New Yorkers listed there last time I checked. Not sure how many of them are in your price range, but it's probably worth a try.

It's definitely a good idea to hire a GMAT specialist instead of a general math test-prep guy, but it can be really tricky to tell them apart. Try asking the tutor to explain the difference between the GRE and the GMAT--he should be able to give you a very long answer. Or maybe try to see how well the tutor understands the composition of the questions on the GMAT--a general math guy will probably overemphasize geometry formulas and (maybe) combinatorics, but might under-emphasize number properties.

I hope this helps, good luck with your search!
