10% of GMAT test takers take the exam more than once and have a high score of 700 or greater, and 20% of GMAT test takers who take the test only once have a score of 700 or greater. If 40% of GMAT test takers take the exam more than once, what percent of GMAT test takers have a high score less than 700?

A. 10.5%
B. 22%
C. 30%
D. 70%
E. 78 %

Hi,
what percent of GMAT test takers have a high score more than 700? I guess it is 700 or more than 700 right?
Let the number of test takers be 100.

--------Once-----More than once
>=700---x--------10
<700---4x--------y
------------------------
-------5x--------(100-5x)
Given that 100-5x = 40 =>x=12.
We need to find, x+10 = 22

Hence, B

Hi,
Let '5x' be the number of GMAT test takers who take the test only once.
20% of GMAT test takers who take the test only once have a score of 700 or greater. So, that will be 20%(5x) = x.
Remaining 4x will be the ones who have taken the test once but scored less than 700.

10% of GMAT test takers take the exam more than once and have a high score of 700 or greater.
As I have considered the total number of test takers to be 100, Number of takers more than once and score >=700 will be 10%(100) = 10.

Excellent way! I don't know if I am the only one noticing that the question needs rewording. In the first 2 sentences of the prompt, a score of 700 or greater is mentioned, but then the actual question is about a score of more than 700. If the wording of the question is correct, there is no way to find the answer based on the information given!
