Discrimination in wages paid in occupations that are predominantly male over the predominantly female have given rise to substantial differentials between the wage of housepainters and secretaries and between the wages of parking-lot attendants and library assistants.

(A) paid in occupations that are predominantly male over the predominantly female have
(B) paid in occupations that are predominantly make over those that are predominantly female have
(C) that favors predominantly male occupations over the predominantly female have
(D) that favors predominantly male occupations over those that are predominantly female has
(E) paid in predominantly male occupations over the predominantly female has


OA is E please explain!

discrimination is singular.
hence "have" in A B n C is incorrect.
D - "that favours ........." incorrectly modifies "wages".

hence IMO E.

I think D can be eliminated cos "THAT" is used 2 introduce a subordinate clause in the sentence.

A clause should have a subject and a verb.
Option D introduces a subordinate clause that does not have a subject or refer to a subject.

Eg : The boy complained that he was ill .

This is a correct eg of subordinate clause introduced by that.
Clearly he refers to the boy(subject) and was is the verb

Please correct me if i am wrong

D has a fatal error...."prdominantly male occupations over those that are predominantly female".....COMPARING MALE OCCUPATIONS WITH FEMALE!...the correct usage would have been..."over those that are predominatly female's...

On second thoughts...isn't "discrimination that favours over " redundant in D, using both "discrimination" and "favour" simultaneously !

E seemed wrong because it said "...over the predominantly female.." the word THE led me to eliminate that as an option b/c it didn't make sense. ???

IMO D should be the answer coz its comparing male occupation and female occupation by wrting those of, So its comparing occupations. But OA is E ...Pls explain if any1 can.

I will try to put my 2 cents here

D is not correct bcoz of the meaning...

Discrimination in wages that favors predominantly male occupations ....


favours is singular here, so we would assume that it is reffering to Discrimination

Now I am just wondering that Discrimination can also favor???
May be, if somebody by the name Discrimination is favouring X, but that will sound quite stupid, although not impossible..:-)

E is correct bcoz of the ellipse(in bold):
paid in predominantly male occupations over the predominantly female [occupations] has
