i know that i can request to send my gmat score to 5 schools before the test, but when can i request my score to be sent to additional schools. do i have to wait for my official score report?

that's actually a good question! i know the fee associated with it but not the timeline... curious to know

I think you can send it to additional schools right after, the scores won't arrive though until after your official report is completed.

Rahul in most cases, you will receive your official scores within 3-4 business days. After that you will be able to report your scores. Even if you could report your scores before you get the official score (which is actually a fancy way of defining the state in which you don't know your AWA score yet), the score wont be reported before your AWA scores are released. So you might as well wait for that. Ofcourse, you will have to pay a $25 fee per school for any additional schools to whom you choose to report your scores.
