I had a problem on my last gmat that, I dont remember the specifics, but I had no idea how to solve.

It was esentially a big triangle with many smaller trangles inside of it and asked me how many total triangles could be found in the figure. How do you solve this kind of problem?

hypothetically, you could draw it out....

let's say one big triangle divides into 4.. and then you are asked to split that triangle into 3s. There would be 12 smaller triangles in the big triangle.

Trying to avoid specifics because there was a question like that on my actual GMAT.
