You have left yourself plenty of time for preparation. I would suggest taking the test by spring 2011 if not earlier, leaving yourself enough time for a re-take or two if you are unsatisfied with your first test score. It would be beneficial to have your test complete by summer 2011, so that you can focus on the rest of the application process.

As for a strategy, I suppose everyone has their own preferable techniques. My strategy is as follows...

I plan to read every MGMAT book (eight total), taking the practice problems and accompanying OG problems in the process. When I complete one topic and move on to the next, I'm going to make sure I practice 10 problems from each completed topic everyday to keep my mind refreshed. Once I finish all of the MGMAT books and Official Guide, I plan to take a practice test (6 MGMAT and 2 mba.com tests) every weekend leading up to my exam, while trying to fix any other mistakes during the week. The key here is to not get burned out from preparation.

Besides reading books, I will also utilize this website for helpful resources and discussions that can improve my flaws.

Perhaps I am missing something myself, but if you wait until next year to take the test, you would have missed first and second round, and very last minute for 3rd round.

The way I understood the question, the author was referring to applying in fall 2011, but perhaps they meant enrolling in fall 2011...

I think he meant "to be enrolled in Fall of 2011".

if you're enrolling fall 2011 then you're in good shape... R1 deadlines are around October/November, so even if you take the exam once by August and then feel that you want to take it again by the end of September you'll be good... and THAT'S just if you want to make R1 deadlines... R2 deadlines aren't until January
