Hello All,
I am looking for a private tutor to help me with my GMAT preparation.

Some details:

1. GMAT Date - July 29, 2016
2. Target Score - 720+
3. Target Schools - Harvard, Wharton, Kellogg, Columbia, Stanford, Booth, Sloan
4. B-School Target Entry - Fall 2017
5. Study Materials - OG 15, OG 13, Manhattan 6th Ed., Some Private Material from the Internet
6. Time Invested thus far - 2 months
7. Time willing to commit to - 10 hours/day
8. GMAT Attempts - 1 in April 2016; Score - 590 (58%), IR - 8 (81%), Quant - 47 (67%), Verbal - 24 (24%).

I am very very embarrassed to say the following.

9. Profession - Assistant Professor in Mechanical Engineering at Louisiana State University
10. Education - BS, MS, PhD - Mechanical Engineering
11. Age - 30
12. Nationality - Indian

I am very serious about my GMAT. So please only serious enquiries. And I appreciate everybody who can give a recommendation.

Hi prashanth884,

It's not clear whether you actually need a tutor or not. Before you spend a lot of money on that type of service, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

1) If you've studied for 2 months, then how much of that was before your Official GMAT on April 1st and how much of that was after?

2) Have you taken any FULL-LENGTH CATs since you've taken the GMAT? If you have, then how have you scored on each of your CATs (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores)?

3) Do you really plan to spend 10 hours a day studying for the next two months? (that's too much, by the way).

Your studies so far have been 'book heavy'; many Test Takers who study in that way end up getting 'stuck' at a particular score level. As such, you'll likely need to invest in some new, non-book resources and learn/practice some new Tactics to hit your score goal. Thankfully, the GMAT is a consistent, predictable Exam, so you CAN train to score at a higher level.

Hi prashanth884,

Your score shows a clear lack of fundamentals. In your preparation so far:

1. How did you study?
2. What material did you follow?
3. Were you able to complete both the sections on the GMAT? (There is a high penalty for not doing so)
4. What were your scores on the GMAT Prep mock CATs


You need to build the concepts/fundamentals before you jump in solving the problems. You can do so by choosing one of the following ways:

1. In person classes/private tutoring
2. Online classes
3. Self paced online preparatory course
4. Book heavy approach

Whatever you choose, make sure that you choose one (I am not sure what you followed in your last leg of preparation, but it would be a wise decision to change the mode of preparation). Along with the the preparatory material, buy the Official Guides(both the Official Guide and the Verbal Review), Question Pack 1 and the 4 official mock CATs. They should be an indispensable part of your preparation.

You need close to 3 months to prepare well for the GMAT. averaging around 2-3 hours on the weekdays and 4 -5 hours on the weekends. Devoting 10 hours a day is too much and will sooner or later lead to a burn out.
