IMO A

statement (a)
3*2>
* can be either multiplication or addition. In both cases (6*2)*4=6*(2*4).
Sufficient.

statement (b)
3*1 = 3
* can be multiplication or division. when multiplication (6*2)*4=6*(2*4).
when division (6*2)*4=6*(2*4) => 3/4 = 12.
Insufficient.
