At a certain pet shop, 1/3 of the pets are dogs, and 1/5 of the pets are birds. How many pets are dogs?

1.There are 30 birds at the pet shop.
2.There are 20 more dogs than birds at the pet shop.


Can anyone assist. I think I overlooked a step.

Statement 1: There are 30 birds. So from here we get that the total of the pets in the whole shop is 30 x 5 = 150 pets. From here we know the total number of the dogs which is 150:3 = 50.
(Sufficient)

Statement 2: We can express it to be something like:
x/3 = x/5 + 20
Carry this out, we also get x=150, and again we can find the number of dogs from here.
(Sufficient)

So I think it is D, what's the OA?

dogs - birds = 20
(TotalPets / 3) - (TotalPets / 5) = 20
TotalPets * 2 / 15 = 20
TotalPets = 150

now you can find dogs / birds

From Question stem:
it says "1/3 of the pets are dogs, and 1/5 of the pets are birds"

Please correct me if I understood your point wrong

Pierce the ratio of birds in the pet shop is 1/5. That means if you have 30 birds you need to multiply by 5 to get the number of pets in the shop. Once you get the number of pets in the shop which is 150 (30 x 5), you then can figure out how many dogs because we know the number of dogs are 1/3 of the number of pets in the shop.
