Only 'A' and 'C' looked any good.

Of the two ..feel that 'C' is more wordy.

So IMO 'A'

Hints

1. Ability to-is idiomatic

2. Prepositional phrase "Ability/capability of the respiratory system" is wordy

Prefer "Respiratory sytem's ability/capability"

From 1 and 2

A concise construxtion would be "Respiratory sytem's ability to"

Left options: A and E

E-"of diminishing..." is awkward

Choose A

IMO A

Learn this as a rule:

Gmat prefers especially over specially

capability is too wordy on gmatland... OUT
