I would just pick numbers x=9 y=16 x+y=25
The reason why I picked these numbers are because all of them are perfect squares which make the calculations easier

P.S : Sometimes if we are not able to come up with algebric solutions its ok to pick smart numbers (reliable approach if done right) that are easy to work with based on problem constraints(if any) rather than staring at a problem which is worse. Applies to all of us.
