dferm, ur qs -
At a certain college there are twice as many English majors as history majors and three times as many English majors as mathematics majors. WHat is the ratio of the number of history majors to the number of mathmatics major?

A. 6 to 1
B. 3 to 2
C. 2 to 3
D. 1 to 5
E. 1 to 6
From Qs, H = 2E -> 3H = 6E
And M = 3E -> 2M = 6E
So 3H = 2M
Or H : M = 2 : 3. So IMO -> C.
The principle to have the LCM of 2 and 3 here and multiply the number by quotient when LCM divided by that number.

RI2007, I generally got confused by these kind of structures -
there are twice as many English majors as history majors
- By this, I understood H = 2E but according to you E = 2H. I am really got confused by this. Hope, u r right! :cry: :wink:
