GMAT Prep questions in GMAT

Hi,
I am new to this forum and have to admit it is soooooooo..........great...............

You guys are doing a wonderful job helping out people like me.

I have a Q:
I have studied OG11 and have done a prep course. I tool the GMATPrep and scored a 540. So I find the questions I got wrong and try to understand the concepts/problems.
Can anyone tell me how similar are the questions in GMAT, I mean not just in terms of concepts but also the real questions. Should I just learn the questions in GMATPrep thoroughly? I did problems in OG11 and had a hit rate of about 82-83% in both Verbal and Quant. Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

I thought that the end of each section in Official Guide and all the GMATPrep tests were VERY similar to the actual GMAT. I would spend a lot of time analyzing your performance with each of these resources!

GMATPrep and GMAT

Thank you very much for the reply. I would have probably given up on my target score if I had not read some very inspiring posts here. I am targating a score in the range of 680-700. I have already taken GMATPrep twice and both times scored 540 (withing 3 days). But I am having trouble with sequences, coordinate geomatry and RC (big time). I would have bought MGMT books but not sure how good they are in explaining these concepts. Also I would like to know is it a good strategy to learn well the basics like work problems, ratios, etcand not worry too much about sequences, permutations, combinations, RC? Also what if I learn the questions/concepts in GMATPrep, would that help me get to my target score? Thanks in advance.

You definitely need to make sure you've mastered the basics before moving on to more advanced subject areas like sequences and coordinate geometry. Quite frankly, you're unlikely to see many questions on the GMAT featuring these advanced topics, but you better believe that you'll see a ton of algebra and arithmetic questions!

Think about putting your concept learnings on flashcards, which you can review on a daily basis. In order to reach your target score, I think you are going to have to emphasize a lot of practice and analysis of your errors. Take a look at the Beat The GMAT del.icio.us directory to see some tips on how to approach your practice sets.
