Which of the following numbers is greater than three fourths of the numbers but less than one-fourths of the numbers in the list above ?

I didn't note down all the 5 answer choices.But the correct answer is 71.Could anyone pls help me to arrive at the answer?

Hi,

the first thing you want to do on questions like this is order the list:

{13, 22, 31, 38, 47, 69, 73, 82}

Next, we see that there are 8 items on the list. Since 3/4 of 8 is 6, and 1/4 of 8 is 2, we want the number between the 6th and 7th numbers on the list.

#6 is 69
#7 is 73

So, the correct answer must be between 69 and 73.

Thank you so much for the reply.Actually I was taking 3/4 th and 1/4th of each number and compared them .I got the wrong answer.Your solution is simply cool.

I need one more clarification please.Since 1/4 of 8 is 2 .How did you decide that it is 7th no ?

Since 1/4 of the terms are above the number we want, and since there are 8 terms, there will be:

(1/4)(8) = 2 terms above the correct answer.

Since there are 8 terms total, the 2 terms above must be the 8th and 7th terms in the sequence.
