Solution:
Now [m] = 3m if m is odd. and [m] is m/2 if m is even.
Or [9] = 3*9 = 27.
[6] = 6/2 = 3.

So [9]*[6] = 27*3 = 81.

thats what i had marked in the gmat prep software test but it is showing 27 as right ans.....

Hi Rohit,

Can you please paste the screenshot of the problem, this will help in reading the exact problem - might be you are missing somehting else the ans shd be 27*3 -> 81.

the exact question is...

for all positive integer m, <m> = 3m when m is odd and <m> = 1/2 when m is even. which of the following is equivalent to <9>*<6>.....

now the ans will be 27 or 81.....

[m]=3m [when m is odd]

[m]=1/2m [when m is even]

[9]=27 [6]=3

[9]*[6]=27*3=81

But be aware that the answer options are in format [] not simply numbers

81 is equal to [27]

So [27] is the answer.

This question was discussed several times.Since the question not typed properly one s lead to the answer 81.Always please type the question with answer options word by word properly from the source.
