Just like the background in art history needed by an archaeologist in order to evaluate finds of ancient art, the nautical archaeologist needs specialized knowledge of the history and theory of ship design in order to understand shipwrecks.

OA is C, but why is B wrong.

Just as X, Y is also a correct construction.

I did see his response and I agree on his teaching skills. He mentioned that B is fragment, but why isn't needs a verb. That's my question.

I guess, you misread his reply. According to him, the (B) is fragment and as well as ungrammatical.


Why ungrammatical?

Because it lacks verb. In option (B), the sentence compare NOUN with VERB. I will rewrite the sentence for you with option (B) as underlined portion.


Just as an archaeologist who needs a background in art history to evaluate finds of ancient art, a nautical archaeologist needs specialized knowledge of the history and theory of ship design in order to understand shipwrecks.

Now look carefully,

AS - use to compare two actions.

1st part:- an archaeologist who needs a background in art history to evaluate finds of ancient art

- it tells about the an Archaeologist, not about his action. Here, his action is extra sentence which you can ignore.

So, 1st part describe about NOUN.

2nd part:- a nautical archaeologist needs specialized knowledge of the history and theory of ship design in order to understand shipwrecks

- it tells about the action performed by a nautical archeologist. So, it describes the ACTION performed by NOUN.


So, we are comparing NOUN with ACTION - Not Parallel.

Hence, option (B) is incorrect choice.
