Hi,
My sincere apologies for the delayed response to your post. I will give you the basis for elimination of incorrect choices.

B) Wrong - "Graham's becoming" is less preferable to "Graham became" since we are referring to the past.

C) Wrong - The bit about 'having won high praise" is awkward at the end. If the sentence had ended right before that bit, it would have been correct.

D) Wrong - "The Washington Post, winning" - grammatically wrong - since we are expected to use the past tense form of "winning".

E) Wrong - Same reasons as 'B' (i.e. "Graham's becoming")
