Alice's take-home pay last year was the same each month, and she saved the same fraction of her take-home pay each month. The total amount of money that she had saved at the end of the year was 3 times the amount of that portion of her monthly take-home pay that she did NOT save. If all the money that she saved last year was from her take-home pay, what fraction of her take-home pay did she save each month?

A. 1/2
B. 1/3
C. 1/4
D. 1/5
E. 1/6

PLEASE HELP..

S - total amount of money that she had saved at the end of the year
T - monthly take-home pay

S/12 - saved amount each month since take-home pay last year was the same each month, and she saved the same fraction of her take-home pay each month.

S = 3(T-S/12)
S = 12T/5

S/12 = 12T/60=T/5

Answer 1/5.

OR

S - total amount of money that she had saved each month
T - monthly take-home pay

3(T-S)=12S
S=T/5

Let T be the take home each month.

Let's take T/x part was saved each month.

in a yr's time =saved money = 12T/x = 3(T - T/x)
Solving the equation we get x = 5.

T/x = T/5 Hence 1/5.
