GMAT in less than 1 week...

by HHH » Mon Apr 27, 2009 8:58 pm
I have my GMAT in less than a week. I am not too confident about my preparations.

Took the GMAT Prep 1 for the first time. Got a 700 (Q48, V38). This has got me worried - am looking for a score of at least 700...and if I get 700 in GMAT Prep, the chances of getting less than 700 on the real thing looks very real!!

hey..

first of all.. just cool down. if you got 700 in GMAT Prep you will definitely get in between 680 to 720.... there are many people on this forum who got 680 or even less than tht but got more on the real thing

The only thing that you have to do now is to just go thru the OG Mistakes.. the secret of success in GMAT is being cool.. No matter how tough the question is, there is always a simple way to solve it.. sometimes our mind doesnt work because of anxiety..

So NO MATTER WHAT QUESTION YOU GET, JUST BE COOL.
DONT CONTINUOUSLY LOOK AT MONITOR, for every 10 or 15 mins take a break of 15 secs.. look at the surroundings and stetch your body.. .. this will help you a lot..,

I am sure you will do well... and remember.. hard work always pays..

Also, analyze the test properly.. give good 2 to 3 hours for analysis.. analyze wht were the factors that helped you to get 700.. check whether you made any careless mistakes.. and also prepare a game plan for those 4 hours using this experience...

Thanks leaonae.

I was doing exactly the opposite...I was trying to assess whether the questions were getting harder or easier...whether I would get around a 720 or not, etc.

You are right - I need to maintain my cool. Thanks for your tips.

Will take GMAT Prep 2 on Sat...actual test is on Monday.

how have you prepared up until now?

I agree with analyzing what you've done. Fill in the blanks and the 'what didn't work' on this test.

Keeping your 'cool' is KEY and easier said than done. It's a bit about having a kind of acceptance, 'surrender' and belief in yourself.

Think about the things you do in your life when you are most in 'the moment.' For some people it is engaging in any of the following: art, music, sports, movies, etc.. If you can transpose the experience of 'being' rather than 'doing' you're on the right track!

I have used the Original Guide and the two review guides - verbal and quantitative.

Based on my performance on Monday, I will decide whether or not to take a professional course. I am planning to take the Manhattan online course.

the online course, or a tutor (one-on-one or via distance learning) would be awesome!

Real thing day after tomorrow

by HHH » Fri May 01, 2009 9:38 pm
I took GMAT Prep 2 today. Score was 710 Q48, V39). [GMAT Prep 1 taken about a week back: 700 (Q48, V38)].

I was hoping to get around 720 or 730. This would have placed me in the right frame of mind when I take the actual thing on Monday (my target is 700).

I made 4 mistakes (out of a total of 12 mistakes) in the first 10 quantitative questions!!! Most of the mistakes were as a result of lazy thinking i.e. not thinking through enough.

Verbal was better. Only 1 mistake (out of a total of 9 mistakes) in the first 10 questions. 5 mistakes were after the first 30 questions.
