Gmat Class

by sampath » Fri Jul 22, 2011 1:40 am
Among the 150 people attending GMAT preparation course, if 90 attend Verbal
classes, 80 attend Quant classes, and 35 are on a special challenging program
and do not attend either the Verbal or Quant classes, how many people attend
only Quant classes?

Is the Ans: 25?

U have the right answer. Always solve such problems using venn diagrams. Look at the venn diagram carefully

From the formula for two circle venn diagrams

Total=V+Q+Ppl in neither set-(VnQ)
150=90+80+35-VnQ
VnQ=55

Which means that 55 people have taken both Quant and Verbal classes

So to find ppl who have taken only either Verbal or Quant just subtract 55 from both
35 people have taken only verbal and 25 people have taken only quant
