Any allegations of John being involved in that kind of a crime are purely ridiculous.

How to attack Gerund questions? What is the answer?

IMO "A"

Any allegations of John being involved in that kind of a crime are purely ridiculous.

Here "Any" is SANAM pronoun as suggested by Manhattan SC guide...so it may be singular or plural based on context

So Any Allegations......is/are...since allegations is plural so are required.

[a] John being involved in that kind of a crime are
Correct
John being involved in that kind of a crime is
>> Are required.

[c] John being involved in that kind of crime is
>>Are required.

[d] John's being involved in that kind of a crime are
>> IMO John is correct not John's.since we are not talking about any thing possessed by John.

[e] John's being involved in that kind of are
>> IMO John is correct not John's.since we are not talking about any thing possessed by John.

i like D. is there a typo in E? is the word "crime" missing in the choice?

we need a possessive before being. so John's being is better than John being involved.

allegations -plural therefore we need "are"

There are two vertical splits in this questions.

1. is Vs Are. = This is for sure "are". That kicks out "B" and "C".
2. John Vs John's = Can some body please tell why possessive form is required here ?

Right ans should be option (D)

'Being' acts as a gerund here and hence will take the possesive form of John, i.e. John's.

Can there be any other way apart from Gerund approach to solve this question....as differentiating various "ing" words as gerunds and participles sometimes become a bit difficult.

John's being involved in that kind of a crime ?

because then it would all boil down to "kind of" vs. "kind of a"
the former is definitely conciser (by a letter

)
