Suppose the height of smaller triangle is h and height of bigger triangle is H... From the figure we can say that the triangles are congruent...means

s/S = h/H ----(1)

From q we know (s*h/2)*2 = S*H/2 ---- (2)

Solve 1 and 2 to get s^2 = S^2/2 so S = root2*s ANS
