A Square counter-top has a square tile in the center, leaving an untilled strip of uniform width around the tile.If the Ratio of the tiled area to the untilled area is 25:39, which of the following be the width in inches, of the strip?

The idea here is that this is a ratio so there are infinite combinations and thus infinite lengths for the strip, including all of those listed in the problem.

Let the length of square counter be "x"
area = x^2
Let the length of tile be "y"
area = y^2
area of the untilled area = x^2 - y^2
We know that
y^2/x^2 - y^2 = 25/39
on solving u'll get
x=8 and y=5 (assumption taken looking at the option)
width in inches could be 3
OA is B
