Geometry: Cuboidal Problem

Expert replies
by tauseef10jan2004 » Fri Jul 29, 2011 3:05 am
A cuboidal room 8 feet wide, 12 feet long and 14 feet high has an attic at a height of 7 feet along its length. If the attic is 4 feet wide, what is the length of the longest ladder that can be put from one of its corner to the attic?

(A) sqrt(404)
(B) sqrt(209)
(C) sqrt(272)
(D) 13
(E) 17.89

Thanks in advance

Ans (B)

Typically here we need to find the diagonal of a cuboid whose length = 12, width = 4 and height = 7. see the below figure
Image

The length of the hypotenuse of orange triangle will give us the answer to the question.

Hyp = sqrt(60+49) = sqrt(209) ans B

Well done. Just a little typo
The more you suffer before the test, the less you will do so in the test! :)
