geometry 3

for the crate, how do you know which side is the length and which one is the width.

the answer = 5

so the dia of tank = 10. now if the crate is 8x10 where 8 is the width, the tank would not fit because the diameter is 10!!! right??????

Thx.

we are asked to find out the maximum volume of tank
with given parameters we can have
1)8as dia , and 10 and 12 as ht.
or 2) 10 as dia and 8 and 12 as ht
for 1 vol. of tank will be 16pi*10 or 16pi*12
for 2nd it will be 25pi*8 or 25pi*12
maximum vol is when dia is 10 and ht 12
so radius is 5

why not 12 as diameter..

if you do the calculation, you will see that you get the biggest volume of the tank when diameter = 10.

I got it,
with 12 as diameter it not possible to put a cylinder in a box of 8,10 as other sides.
thanks for your comments.
