1)You don't need to return to your country to take the test. You will simply need to register for the location where you want to test, and have proper identification (https://www.mba.com/mba/thegmat/testday)

2) It is not mandatory to provide names of schools when you register or when you take your test (I didn't). The schools you provide will receive your score reports, but you can decide to send score reports later to whichever shools you would like. The advantage of providing school names during registration or on test day is that those reports will be sent free of charge. Later requested score reports will cost you money.

Just to add:

You might as well pick 5 schools to which to send your score on test day, since - if you retake - the schools will end up seeing the first attempt's score anyway (all your scores from the previous 5 years are on your score report). If you don't retake, you'll just end up having to pay $30 for each score report later.
