G is a sequence such that each term is 3 more than the preceding term. What is the third term of G?

1. The middle term of G is 15.
2. The first term of G is 0.

B is the answer

(1) we cannot say what the first term or the 3rd term is - INSUFF

(2) since 0 is the 1st term, 6 is the 3 rd term - SUFF

15 is the middle term.

For eg : the sequence can be

12,15,18 or 9,12,15,18,21

In the first case, 3rd term is 18 and in the 2nd case, 3rd term is 15.
==> We cannot determine the 3rd term from the middle term.

For (1), why can't we simply say that the length of the sequence G is not known.


What if we change the question a little?

G is a sequence such that each term is 3 more than the preceding term. How many terms does the sequence G contain?

1. The middle term of G is 15.
2. The first term of G is 0.
