Let fn+1(x) = fn (x) + 1 if n is a multiple of 3
= fn (x) - 1 otherwise.


If f1(1) = 0, then what is f50(1)?

(1) -18 (2) -16 (3) -17 (4) -20

f2=f1-1=-1
f3=f2-1=-2
f4=f3+1=-1
f5=f4-1=-2
f6=f5-1=-3
f7=f6+1=-2
f8=f7-1=-3
f9=f8-1=-4
f10=f9+1=-3

so fn+1=(-1)*(n/3)..when n is a multiple of 3

hence f49=(-1)*(48/3)=-16
f50=[spoiler]f49-1=-17[/spoiler]
