Freelance Work - Resume?

Working in Architecture I've done some freelance work to make ends meet. One of the projects in particular was rather involved, I learned a lot, 20+ hours a week on top of my full time job. BUT this was under the table work. I would like to put it on my resume, but should I be concerned about ADCOMs looking up the position?

Hi xaniaphl,

I do not know enough about the work you did, but if this is something that you would not be happy about others finding out about - for example if this went against a non-compete contract that you had signed for your current employer - then I do not recommend including this in your resume.

Thank you Conrad. I asked Don Martin at an MBA tour and he said citing contact information for the freelance employer would suffice, giving adcoms a way to verify the work was done as stated. Could you speak more to the process of what schools do with your employment information? Do they check tax records? I do not want my employer to know that I am applying until I know I have been accepted and can give reasonable notice.

Because I've had to work after hours I do not have much volunteer time to put down. I'm concerned that I'll be misperceived as "sitting on the couch" rather than demonstrating the initiative and drive that has kept me moving forward.
