IMO - A

"Evident .. in" should be the right phrase

The association of personality disorder (PD) with the subsequent development of eating and weight problems is investigated. Results indicate that PD symptoms, which are evident by early adulthood, might be associated with the risk for the development of eating and weight problems by middle adulthood.

Evident by is not wrong...then why not B??

IMO there are thousands of idioms in english...

So if no clue about two similar looking but actually different idioms then no option but to go by ear :-)

I think it also depends on the context and the overall meaning/intent of the sentence. In this example of "evident by", intent is to cover a specific period of time...

So I think both "evident in" and "evident by" are fine but in a specific context...sorry, dont have clear cut rule that I can mention....anyone has?

Also, which one is correct:
1. His disinterest was evident by his gesture
2. His disinterest was evident in his gesture

I think 2 is correct...what say?

Yes...if nothing strikes then best to go with original sentence one....atleast it will not create the change in meaning problem :-)

I think it's B as well. 'Evidenced by' makes more sense.

What's the OG?

OA is A. I'm confused between EVIDENT IN and EVIDENT BY. Still not convinced with the explanation given.

I chose B. Because I thought EVIDENT BY is correct.

Please explain me clearly whats wrong with the answer choices but A.

Although I am not sure whether Evident by is wrong or better then Evident in...

But atleast Evident in is correct in GMAT....

The following is Question#58 of OG-10...although this question does not test evident in/by....but it uses evident in....

William H. Johnson's artistic debt to Scandinavia is evident in paintings that range from sensitive portraits of citizens in his wife's Danish home, Kerteminde, to awe-inspiring views of fjords and mountain peaks in the western and northern regions of Norway.[/u]
