For three bags, A, B, and C, bag A contains one half the number of apples as bag B contains, and bag B contains one third the number of apples as bag C contains. If bag A contains 30 apples, how many apples does bag C contain?
(A) 5
(B) 20
(C) 45
(D) 90
(E) 180

Number of apples in B = Twice that in A = 2*30 = 60
Number of apples in C = Thrice that in B = 3*30 = 180

The correct answer is E.

A contains 30 apples

A contains one half the number of apples as bag B = B contains twice the number of apples as the number of apples contained in Bag A

Numerically -

A = 1/2 B

So , B = 2A


So, B contains 60 apples


B contains one third the number of apples as bag C contains = C contains thrice the number of apples contained in Bag B


Numerically -

B = 1/3 C

3B = C


So, Bag C contains 180 apples
