Hi All,

We're told that for a group of N people, K of whom are of the same GMAT, the (N-K)/N expression yields an index for a certain phenomenon in group dynamics for members of that GMAT. We're asked - for a group that consists of 20 people, 4 of whom are females, by how much does the index for the females EXCEED the index for the males in the group. While this question might appear a bit complex, it's just a variation on a Symbolism question: we're given a set of instructions and told to calculate a result (in this case, two results).

N = 20 people with 4 women and 16 men

The 'index' for women would be (20 - 4)/20 = 16/20 = 4/5
The 'index' for men would be (20 - 16)/20 = 4/20 = 1/5

The index for the women would exceed the index for the men by... 4/5 - 1/5 = 3/5 = .6

Final Answer: E

The women have an index of:

(20 - 4)/20 = 16/20 = 4/5 = 0.8

The men have an index of:

(20 - 16)/20 = 4/20 = 1/5 = 0.2

Thus, the index for the females exceeds that of the males by 0.8 - 0.2 = 0.6.

Answer: E
