There is ample evidence, derived from the lore of traditional folk medicine, that naturally occurring antibiotics are usually able to be modified to make them a more effective drug.

A. are usually able to be modified to make them a more effective drug

B. are usually able to be modified to make them more effective drugs

C. are usually able to be modified, which makes them more effective drug

D. can usually be modified to make them a more effective drug

E. can usually be modified to make them more effective drugs

A. are usually able to be modified to make them a more effective drug --> drug does not match antibiotics

B. are usually able to be modified to make them more effective drugs --> correct
C. are usually able to be modified, which makes them more effective drug --> ungrammatical structure

D. can usually be modified to make them a more effective drug --> same error as A's

E. can usually be modified to make them more effective drugs --> should be can be usually modified ...

B. are usually able to be modified to make them more effective drugs - "Are able to be" vs "Can"...choose Can

C. are usually able to be modified, which makes them more effective drug - Which must refer to a single noun not a sentence, idea, etc. In this instance it seems to refer to the drugs being "able to be modified."

D. can usually be modified to make them a more effective drug - Subject/verb agreement "antibiotics are able to become a more effective drug.'

E. can usually be modified to make them more effective drugs- Correct
