Fish eyes

by crackgmat007 » Fri Aug 14, 2009 8:29 am
Because fish look through water, their eyes are very different from a mammal.
A. from a mammal
B. from a mammal’s
C. from that of a mammal
D. than that of a mammal
E. than is a mammal’s.

Debating between
B & C
which one is correct. Why is B better than C

I think you can say that there is a parallel between "their eyes" and "mamal's (eyes)", which is preferred to "their eyes" and "that (eyes) of a mamal"

is the OA = B?

when both are grammatically correct, go for less wordy sentences. so,I prefer B to C..

E. than is a mammal’s.

i think its regarding parallelism C wud have been correct if the statement were like this
Because fish look through water, eyes of fish are very different from that of a mammal.

here to parallel wit their eyes , option B is most appropriate,

correct me if my reasoning is wrong

I think C would be correct if it said "from thse of a mammal" since 'eyes' is plural. I choose B.

What is the source of the Q? The answer would be B if you consider the underlined portion. But the question itself is wrong. THEIR is a wrong antecedent for FISH.

Umaa,

FISH is PLURAL, so THEIR is ok here

Similarly,
EYES,DATA,. etc are plural and will take THOSE (plural pronouns)
