GMAT Score:640

What is it?

by AleksandrM » Thu Feb 14, 2008 10:30 am
All of these posts bring up something interesting. Ultimately, what is the purpose of the GMAT and what does it indicate. Think about it, there are people out there who got probably score a 720, say, simply based on their ability and things they’ve picked up in school. Then, there are people who would "really" score a 650, say, but actually scored a 720. What does it say about these two individuals - one using pure ability for numbers, patterns and language; the other using strategies he learned from a few books and some software?

It has been written that the GMAT is a good indicator of how well or poorly one will perform in an actual academic setting. Is this really true? I think not, and there is a plethora of examples.

Does the GMAT test your knowledge of mathematics and Standard English? Or, does it test your ability to prepare for a test that does not allow you to use a calculator for rather simple problem, and thus makes it difficult. Also, I am absolutely convinced that GMAC is aware of the fact that many of the questions will not be entirely solved/evaluated in the time provided. Instead, test takers will choose an answer based on limited information. Is that, then, what is being tested. Your ability for abstract thought, memorization, or your speed of judgment?

Finally, does it test pure intelligence through the administration of commonly recognized shapes, patterns, etc?

Just a thought.

Hey guys! luckytest was trying to help the members of BTG, we should not be so rude to him. Yop! its unethical, its wrong - I know. But we could tell luckytest in polite way or something like that. Now look guys, he tried to help us but now he has become a culprit(?) - so sad! But its true that we the BTGians will not like to do any cheating , right! We can beat the GNAT WITH OUR own efforts. What do you say guys?
Correct me If I am wrong

hello everybody :o
do you remember that since the year 2004, both China and India have been canceled the GRE computer test by ETS?
Why? we all know the reason- JJ.
we can not read Chinese or Indian, so we ...
last year, one of my friend buy JJ from China, and he got 720. but i just got 680 at the same day.
i was so angry at that time but we all know it is illegal to sell JJ b ecause it is not the same question ( the original questions words) in the test . so Ets can only cancel computer test in China and India but can not do something more. :(
i do not believe the author luckytest is a fraud, he got what he need.
but maybe he do not want to tell where he really buy JJ or how he got them.
if you were him, will you tell somebody else?

Googly2008 did obviously not get JJ or has already got jj already but do not want somebody else to buy

we are adult , we should do what we should do. if you need at least 700,jj maybe is useful. but many time 680 is enough :)

BEWARE OF THIS FRAUD!!!!!!
Firstly I am sorry for what I did :(
Luckytest is a fraud

This post is actually a bait as he knew there would be people who would want to get good marks in test. There is no other reason why some one who has never posted in the forum suddenly comes and tries to help everybody.
The sequence of event that happened:
luckytest posted about jj and also mentioned his email id. the moderator deleted his email id but i was online then to get it before it was deleted.
I approached him. he started to converse with me and in a friendly gesture gave me the contact of the supplier ( they all are same) .
I approached the supplier, who asked me for details of my reference etc (making it appear like professionals).
I then made a payments to the bank they mentioned. I lost all my money :(
They received the money and started behaving akwardly and then stopped talking to me.

In short fooled me:(
They are very intelligent, also dont approach any chinese people. They try to post saying they are chinese and scored good marks, so we will feel that they must be having the JJ link, and we will trust them and eventually get fooled.
Lesson learnt: There is no shortcut to success.
Dont pay anyone any money for any business if you just know them virtually.

moderator: Please dont allow chinese jj related article to be posted on this site. even though you deleted the
email id, they can converse through PM and also all the posts which are in support are by them.

Anyone registering using sina.com email id is chinese and chinese dont use this forum as they have many forums for the purpose. All people who suddenly appear and post their success stories should be banned if they have not participated in past couple of months.

If anyone gets any details of this supplier pass them on to ETS and antifraud. Also note ETS is vigilant and can cancel scores of any test takers if found using illegal channels.

@googly2008 unfortunately you have no one to blame except for yourself for what happened to you.

I have checked up on ddttkks and jasoncao and you seem to be right they seem to be clones of each other. I have send Eric their IP addresses with a request to ban them. I will lock the thread if more of such messages crop up.

Googly2008 I'm sorry for what happened to you but as Gabriel mentioned you have no one to blame but yourself. You should have also used Paypal or other secure service so if you didn't get the service you paid for you could've requested your money back.

But there is no need to castigate a whole race of people for what one individual or a group did to you.

does it matter whether or not they are intelligent? NO. it just matters that you made a bonehead move.

@ac4wong
@jasoncao

Regarding you comment on Indian's
If this was true you will not find Indian's on Scoretop, BTG & pagalguy..site.
Check out any good GMAT Prep Institute. (manhattangmat, veritas, Kaplan..etc) you will find lots of indians taking prep course.

There are NO Indian sites where India people post real GMAT question in native language.
You will find most of the indians on scoretop, BTG & pagalguy.

We study hard like everyone else.

Sickening indeed!!, Is GMAC aware of this. If they are not can we atleast use this post to bring it to their attention that something like this is happening.
If I (merely a reader then) knew about it on the first/ second month itself when I actually started researching about GMAT & stuff, surely GMAC could know everything.
I believe such activities are reduced since year (early 2007)

While I agree that it is unethical to cheat in any test, I think GMAC and the B-Schools have brought this problem upon themselves. Too much emphasis is placed on getting a high score, so people resort to desperate measures. Besides, I think the test (verbal) is too US-centric. There are some words or term that people in the western world may take for granted because they use them in their everyday language, but those terms maybe a little confusing to people in Asia or Africa for example.

Long story short -- Schools are beginning to rely too heavily on the GMAT and this is leading to cheating!

That being said, I'll study hard for my exam (ethically), and pray for a 700. :)

This is exactly the strategy that I prescribe for scoring above 700.

Id like to end this thread with a punch
"There is no purpose to human existence. All we do is survive and replicate"
Greed is inherent in our natures and we will do whatever we need to do to make our survival and replication odds better. The chinese and indians will exploit their brains. You will exploit your looks, the athletes will exploit steroids, people will exploit religion. We exploit every resource available at our disposal right from the moment we take birth on this planet till we turn into compost. So if I cry over someone else's means of exploiting then I am doing that because it is directly or indirectly lowering my survival and replication odds. But do I consciously or unconsciously do the same thing to hurt someone else's survival and replication odds? So there is NOTHING you or I can do about it and so we should stop RANTING about morals and ethics. The only way it can stop is when there is a higher power like GMAC or law taking some action. Instead we should worry about our own survival and replication needs.
200 or 800. It don't matter no more.
