Find the fourth consecutive even number.

(1) The sum of the last two numbers is 30.
(2) The sum of the first two numbers is 22.

Horribly worded question. Based on the wording alone, I wouldn't trust this source.

Assuming the question should have been written as:
If set S only contains four consecutive even integers, what is the fourth term in set S?
we think to ourselves: if I can pinpoint any term in the set, I can reconstruct the entire set.

(1) there are only two consecutive even integers that sum to 30. So, we can figure out what those two terms are: sufficient, eliminate B, C and E.

(2) there are only two consecutive even integers that sum to 2. So, we can figure out what those two terms are: sufficient, eliminate A.

Each statement is sufficient alone, choose D.

14+16=30

so the other 2 numbers are 10,12

sufficient.

(2)

10+12=22

the other 2 numbers are 14,16

sufficient
