Just because something is hard doesn't mean you shouldn't try,it means you should just try harder.

I checked in OG 10 and couldn't find it. I picked A, not sure why it is subjunctive but I find it the most concise and clear.

They spoke in the past, B and C both change the tense and no other clue on the press report is given, maybe the press report has already been released, further if they were talking about future in the past then the sentence should have had a would instead of will in B.

D is wordy and E is wrong pronoun case.

POE A.

Can any expert comment on this please.

Sorry i forgot to mention that the OA is unreliable. I downloaded a set of SCs off the net to practice. But as it turns out they are not GMAT like nor are the OAs reliable. I wouldnt have posted them if i knew earlier on.

komal please try not to post the ambiguous question which are from unreliable sources. If the question is from reliable source and tricky , it will do . But this question is creating a lots of confusion..So I hope you will be coming up with better questions next time.

My GMAT journey began not so long ago. As u can see i joined BTG on 1st Jan 2010 and this question was posted a few weeks after that. I had no idea that some online questions could be unreliable. Obviously it was not a deliberate move to cause confusion. I hope u understand. Once again, *Apologies* : )

Well now apologies accepted as the source is unreliable the question still remains unanswered . I will try to answer hope it helps .

Several financial officers of the company spoke on condition that they not be named in the press reports.

A. that they not be named
B. that their names will not be used
C. that their names are not used
D. of not having their names
E. of not naming them

Since the officers spoke on a condition it is clearly a subjunctive question . As we can easily put in any of the words such as REQUESTED , DEMANDED etc.

As per subjunctive rule :

Bossy verb + THAT + subject + Command Subjunctive.

So on basis of this rule D and E are eliminated.

Another basic rule of subjunctive is BARE FORM of the verb (the infinitive) TO BE , should be used with out TO that is only BE and not other forms of such as IS , ARE , AM , WILL etc.

Eg : Taken from Manhattan GMAT SC book.

The agency REQUIRED that Gary BE ready before noon.

REQUIRED - Bossy verb

Subject - Gary

+ THAT

Bare form of verb BE.

On basis of this eliminate B and C .

Only A is correct and follows the rules of subjunctive.
