Figuring out schools to target...

Hi all . I gave my first attempt on 1st July 2011 and got a score of 660 (q 49 v 31) .. I gave the second attempt on 28th September 2011 and got a score of 720 (Q 50 V 38) . I graduated this year only . I ll be applying next year for September 2012. So which universities should I target ??? I ll have the work ex of just 12 months but that work ex is in my own company and that too its a director level work ex... Can u guys please help me out?

With this kind of work experience, you will find it really difficult to get in. However there are a lot of colleges allowing the young blood to join in. Not less than 30 undergrads made it to the most vouched class.

For the record if you can hook a great theme, try the following colleges:

Simon Graduate School of Business
Krannert
Texas A&M University
Rochester
Stanford

After all, no of years is also a number and admissions decisions are made on more than numbers.

I had personally visited Texas A&M and discussed with the admission officer. They need 2 years of experience for MBA I think.

@RonakC, I suggest you to get some professional experience, otherwise you will feel like lost in the vast sea of professionals

If you wish to apply to top business schools then one of the prerequisites is having significant work experience. Generally candidates have around 4-5 years of full time experience in spite of several term time projects or jobs; so you may be competing with other candidates who have 4-5 years of full time experience and have started significant initiatives at college.
Hence, we would advise you to gain some full time work experience before you decide to apply for an MBA.

Well, the experts do speak a lot about MBA applicants are accepted with less experience than average in top B Schools. That's true, but not more than 3% of the total such applicants.

Also, there is another concern point for the younger applicants joining in MBA. Practical experience have some value in Management field. An applicant with less experience can gain entrance in top B Schools, but what after the MBA admission? They may feel like lost in the experienced class. Again, what after MBA completion? If you are not looking for your own venture, the companies do always prefer experienced MBA students than some newbie in business management line.

So, based on my opinion, if you have less than 2 yrs of experience, then hold on till you gain 3yrs of experience. Improve your management skill, EC's and then go for MBA
