Extremely Bad at Sentence Correction - Where should i start

Hello

I have planned to take the GMAT by the second week of August'10. I started the preparation by taking the diagnostic test of OG 12th edition. I scored really BAD in the SC section. Avg in RC, Above Avg in CR. Though Quantitative was above avg, I am confident of making up the MATH part of GMAT.

Now for the sentence correction part, I tried doing the following

a) Started reading WREN & MARTIN to brush up basic grammar skills. Couldnt get past 40 pages in a week. Just so many exercises in it.
b) Tried Learning from GMAT OG -12th edition, it made me look more awkward in SC

There are just too many rules, I am not able to get the hang of it.

Generous Souls of this amazing club, request your suggestions for the following questions:

a) Where should i start ? How do i become GOOD at SC in 9 weeks ?
b) I cannot afford - (i) to have a private tutor or join any of the famous institutes - ii) to flunk is not a choice. This is my first and only shot i have got at GMAT.

I am sorry, if I sound stupid, but there is just no plan B. I cannot afford to screw this GMAT.

laxmanrr SC is not a topic you can learn from the OG as you've found out. You should invest in the Manhattan GMAT SC Guide. I also recommend the PowerScore SC Bible.

There is no way around doing well in SC other than memorizing every single rule there is to memorize.
My goal is to make MBA applicants take onus over their process.

hi laxman

i will suggest as money1111 aid manhattan Sc is best book for starters. first you understand the types of sc and diffrent rule related to them. after completing Manhattan Sc with og 12 for practice question you can proceed to powerscore bible.
i dont have powerscore bible so i cant comment anything.

and for buying books u dont need to rely on books store. simply go to flipkart.com and backscatrer.com these online book store take free shipping and take atleast 4-5 days to deliver to yr address. my experience with them is very nice.

so best of luck

I have started with a old Manhattan Sentence Correction Book. I understand SC much better now.

Its a logical puzzle or detective game. Its interesting.

Powerscore is still not available in hyderabad or flipkart for 3-4 days. I will let the forum know, if i am able to get powerscore SC bible.

Please do not join any coaching institution in India. It will be wastage of money. There are tons and tons of problem have already been discussed at www.beatthegmat.com and www.manhattangmat.com/forums/.

Recommended GMAT Books https://www.beatthegmat.com/mba/books

Most of these books you can find in soft copy. Please look it at links, which are at my signature panel.

If you need hard copy book, you can refer to www.flipkart.com. These guys provide books with huge discount.

My sentence correction ability has gone up the curve. There is a still a long way to go, but i have greater hope now.

First major realization.

Sentence correction is not about "correcting" a sentence, but about what is wrong in a sentence. (wear a detective hat)

The first lesson in swimming is not about floating, its about how not to drown.
