Hello,

I'm planning on applying to B-school next year for the fall of 2010. I have a rather strong resume in terms of job experience, college work and college grades, but have yet to take the GMAT though.

I was curious as to what type of "extracurricular activties" B-schools look for or like to see. I have to say I'm not involved in too much outside of work, so I am concerned that this could develop into a rather serious resume flaw. Any suggestions? Is this even necessary to be concerned about?

Dear rros0770,

How important extracurricular activities are varies by school. Some value them and others don't really consider them that much. Extracurriculars are generally going to be community involvement like volunteering with nonprofits. Some schools also see participating in sports teams or book clubs as extracurriculars. The reason schools like to see these experiences is to get a personal side to you and you can gain leadership/teamwork skills from these activities. You have at least a year before you apply and two before you start school, so find something that interests you and get involved.
