Extra Curriculars Question

by ozzy10fl » Fri Sep 26, 2008 6:51 am
Hi Lisa,

My extra curricular activity is a bit light. I held a leadership position in undergrad, and have volunteered in events here and there after graduation, but I haven't built a school in a village or something along those lines.

My question is if traveling abroad, and philanthropy (financial support for non-profits) would count or be seen as a type of EC activity?

Thanks,
Ozzy

Dear Ozzy,

Personal travel is not necessarily an EC, but it can make for interesting stories in your essays. Likewise, simply giving money to nonprofits is not going to have any bearing on your application. Schools are looking for examples of your skills outside the workplace. Perhaps there are one or two of your volunteer experiences since that would make for a good example in an essay? At this point, I think you need to focus on putting together a strong overall application and not worry so much about your EC's. Just my 2 cents...

Good luck,
Lisa
