Although Napoleon’s army entered Russia with far more supplies than they had in their previous campaigns, it had provisions for only twenty-four days.

(A) they had in their previous campaigns
(B) their previous campaigns had had
(C) they had for any previous campaign

If you spot the error, this one is a quickie!

Whenever we see a pronoun in the underlined part of the sentence, there's an excellent chance that we're being tested on pronoun usage. We see "they" in the original, we need to find a matching antecedent (parent noun).

Clearly, "they" is referring to the army. However, an army is singular, not plural, so "they" is incorrect. Quickly eliminate (a), (b), (c) and (d) ("their" is equally wrong).

Only one choice left: choose (e).
