by shah.amna » Sun Sep 18, 2011 7:26 am
Hi everyone,

I desperately need you help, i have scheduled my exam on October 31st, i took my 1st GMAT Prep test on 18th August, scored only 310, after 2 weeks i took another test which resulted in 440 & today i took 3rd test which resulted 480.

I feel this score is quite low for addmision in any business school, i am non-native english speaker, my raw score in verbal today was 20 & in Quant it was 37, in Quant most of wrong question i attempted were of DATA Sufficiency,in Verbal wrong answer were from RC & CR.

I am poor at Combanatorics , probablility , Geometry & Data Sufficiency , i am unable to absorb basic properly.

Please help me how can i improve my score, i have got MGMAT 8 Strategy Guides, Power Score CR, Nova Data Sufficiency & OG-12.

WOULD BE GRATEFUL TO YOU FOR IMMEDIATE HELP, I AM LEFT WITH ONLY 42 DAYS.

Regards,
Amna

Use the manhattan books to solve OG problems. If you feel that you are not strong in basics. Learn using the books, make flash cards and error logs. Try to apply them in problems. Review a lot. Solve less and review more. Probably you have been continuously solving and missed reviews.

Check out this link on how to analyze a problem.

DS questions are mostly to find a value or yes/no type. Be clear with what is being asked, if its find a value then we should get only one particular value there cannot be more than one, if its yes/no - it should be either one and not both. The first time i tried solving problems i was barging the problem with all the information in the question and the statements. I messed up, the only answer choices i ended up were C or E. So try rephrasing the question first. It is more important to know what is asked and what is needed to solve. Go through the statements one by one and try to solve. Follow the A D, B C E order. While solving problems make flash cards for shortcuts like if x^2 < x then 0 < x < 1. For percentage increase/decrease you need both the original and the increased value. Is x < y - we need to know the signs of both variables. For absolute value problems you have to split up the eqns. So the statements should have something related to this. You will learn a lot of these shortcuts when you review a lot. So try to follow the AD BCE approach and review a lot to learn more shortcuts.

If you are a non native speaker verbal part is quite difficult to improve in a short time.

Getting defeated is just a temporary notion, giving it up is what makes it permanent.
